5 Tips to Clean Your Home Windows Like a Professional

We here at Sky High know better than most, that keeping your windows clean can not only brighten up your live space and enhance your view of the outside world, but improve your overall head space as well (every lil' bit counts!).

Here are our TOP FIVE TIPS AND TRICKS to achieve streak-free, sparkling windows like a professional, listed in order of importance:

1. Use the Right Cleaning Solution:

As an environmentally conscious outfit, we recommend preparing your own natural (and wholly effective) DIY cleaning solution cocktail. See HERE for our fave.

2. Choose the Right Tool:

  • Squeegee - Visit your local neighbourhood Dollarama, and pickup a high-quality (enough) squeegee with a smooth rubber blade. For a streak-free finish, this should be the only tool on your tool belt.
  • Microfiber Cloths - If you don't happen to have a squeegee handy, you can use a microfiber cloth to clean and dry.

3. Clean on a Cloudy Day:

This might be counter-intuitive, but AVOID DIRECT SUNLIGHT if you can. Cleaning windows on a sunny day can cause the cleaning solution (see above) to dry too quickly, leading to streaks. Overcast or cloudy days are ideal because the solution remains wet longer, allowing you to clean more thoroughly and consistently.

4. Work from Top to Bottom:

Start cleaning the top of the window and work your way down. This way, any drips or residue will fall onto areas that haven’t been cleaned yet, preventing you from having to redo sections.

5. Regular Maintenance:

The secret to a healthy and happy life (and in this case windows) - regularity. Regularly clean your windows to prevent buildup of dirt and grime. How often you clean depends on your environment—typically, twice a year is a good starting point. In more polluted areas or if you have a lot of pollen in your neck of the woods, you might need to clean more frequently.

By following these tips, you can keep your windows looking as pristine as god intended and enjoy a clear, unobstructed view from the comforts of your castle.
